Over 40 years ago, when Sandra’s husband was her fiancé, he gave her a sewing machine as a Christmas gift and she has been busy ever since. Her sewing space has steadily grown from a corner in the kitchen into a dedicated studio in her home.
Having a career as a psychiatric nurse and raising her family meant she only had time to sew for her loved ones. Later, when they moved to Ontario, her daughters suggested “ Mom, you should join a club to meet new friends”. This was the encouragement she needed to join a beginner quilting class and a quilt guild.
Now retired, Sandra loves to sew with all kinds of fabric. For baby items, her favourites are minky and swaddle, for sleepwear and rag quilts she uses flannelette. She also works with 100% cotton for quilts, home decor, and personal items.
Sandra enjoys taking small groups of women to local fabric stores. She assists them to pick out the perfect fabric and offers small group sewing classes in her studio.
Sandra champions the Slope to Shore Quilters Guild’s Comfort Quilt Program. These quilts are distributed locally and nationally to bring a little comfort to those in need. She also made quilts for the Quilts of Valour-Canada Society.
